Nebbiolo d’Alba is a red wine produced in the northern Italian region of Piedmont. It is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Nebbiolo wines are ifull-bodied with a spicy, leathery and tobacco nose. On the palate it is dry, powerful and persistent, with good tannic finish.
Nebbiolo produces lightly-colored red wines which can be highly tannic in youth with scents of tar and roses. As they age, the wines take on a characteristic brick-orange hue at the rim of the glass and mature to reveal other aromas and flavors such as violets, tar, wild herbs, cherries, raspberries, truffles, tobacco, and prunes.
Nebbiolo d'Alba is made from the same grapes from the same region as the famous Barolo wines. It is a less expensive way to enjoy the unique qualities of the nebbiolo grape. It also requires less ageing, so it is more approachble when still young. This is a wonderful wine – one of our favorites!
